Who is Mohamed Salah?

Mohamed Salah or Mo’ Salah as he is fondly called is an Egyptian professional footballer who plays as a forward for the Egyptian national team and English Club Liverpool. He is one of the best forwards from Egypt to play in the English top-flight leagues.

As a prolific forward known for his finishing, dribbling, and speed Mo Salah has earned himself a couple of nicknames from fans like “The Pharaoh” and “Egyptian King”. He was born Mohamed Salah Ghaly on the 15th of June, 1992 in the Egyptian town Nagrig, Basyoun in Gharbia Governorate, Egypt

Mo Salah was raised in his native Nagrig by his middle class parents. At a very tender age he discovered he was a gifted footballer and would not let his poor academic performance affect his field activities.

He soon became a concern to his parents who would rather that their son study to become an elite and perhaps one of the conventional career as was obtainable in the Egyptian culture. When his parents found out that he would not give up on football, they decided to let him have his way.

Driven by passion for the game of football, Salah joined a local club “El Mokawloon” in Cairo. He would cover a great distance in order to be at the training ground because Cairo the city center was a long distance from his hometown. However, nothing was going to deter him from following the path to achieve his dream to become a professional footballer.

Subsequently, Salah was promoted to the senior team of the club in 2010 when he was just about 18-years-old. This didn’t quite seem like the breakthrough he woanted because he was only fielded as a substitute, however, he kept on improving and eventually became a regular starter for the team.

Professional Career

After just two years at FC Basel, London giants Chelsea FC made a bid to sign him due to his outstanding performance at the Swiss club. He put an ink to paper for the Chelsea deal worth €16.50million in 2014.

The young Mohamed Salah didn’t have so much good time at Chelsea and was loaned to Italian side Fiorentina in February 2015 and after about four months the loan deal had elapsed in June 2015. In his resilient manner, Salah refused to go back to Fiorentina on another loan deal rather he was interested in playing for AS Roma.

Salah joined AS Roma from Chelsea in August 2015, the deal had an option to buy which payed off for the soon to be Egyptian Pharoah in soccer. At the end of the loan deal Salah had proved himself to be proficient at goal and won ‘Best Player’ of the Season and also the top scorer with 15 goals. This prompted the club to offer him a new contract.

In July 2016, Salah officially signed a permanent contract with AS Roma at a transfer fee of €15.00million. Meanwhile, the outstanding Egyptian forward had attracted the attention of top European clubs who were seeking for his signature as the made offers to lure him.

Finally in July 2017, Liverpool was able to secure the transfer of Salah for a fee of €42.00million which was the club record signing at the time. Mohamed Salah did not waste time to fit into the Liverpool squad as he proved himself again by scoring in his debut match, he soon became the fans favorite and won the Player of the Month for August the same year.

Mohamed Salah ended his debut season at Liverpool as the leading goal-scorer with a total of 36 goals.
