If he has the highest followers then it is not surprising that Cristiano Ronaldo ranks #1 on the Instagram rich list 2021 ahead of Dwayne Johnson and Ariana Grande.
With whooping 308 million Instagram followers the Juventus and Portuguese forward can charge the sum of $1.6m to place an advert on his account, this is following the analysis of social media marketing firm Hopper HQ.
Prior before the emergence of C.Ronaldo, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was top on the list. This will be the first time for a sportperson to be top on the list since inception in 2017, kudos to CR7.
The Top 10 Instagram rich list is predominantly women with just four men in the list of which two are sports men, an actor and a musician.
Having mentioned two sportsmen, I think is automatically obvious who it is alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, of course, it is the Argentine hitman Lionel Messi. Though he is in the seventh position, he is the third male listed.
Maybe if the list is extended a little then we would have Brazil and Paris Saint Germain forward Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior who is placed at the sixteenth position. He is the closest sportsperson who made the list at least in the top sixteen.
How is the Instagram rich list determined?
The Instagram rich list is published by UK-based company Hopper HQ. The company runs social media accounts on behalf of companies and individuals.
The company analyses the internal and publicly available data of the list of the highest-paid celebrities on Instagram and puts the following factors into consideration: average engagement, intervals between subsequent posts, industry variables and the number of followers.
The maiden Instagram rich list was in 2017 placing Selena Gomez at the top with the potential of $550,000 per post and 122 million followers. Also, in the same year, Cristiano was among the two sportsmen that made the list alongside Lebron James.
As of 2017, Cristiano Ronaldo was third on the list with 104 million followers and an advert potential of $400,000 per post while Lebron James was placed 10th with 30.7 million followers and advert potential of $120,000 per post – they were the only men in the list dominated by females.
There was more improvement in the year 2018, with more men entering the top 1o list, however, Ronaldo maintained the third position with Kylie Jenner ($1,000,000 Per Post) and Selena Gomez ($800,000 Per Post) occupying the first and second position respectively.
Football stars Neymar Jr. and Lionel Messi made it to the list and were placed at the eighth and ninth positions respectively. Actor Dwayne Johnson occupied the sixth position while Justin Bieber was placed seventh.
In 2019, while Messi was dropped from the top 10 Instagram rich list, C. Ronaldo maintained the third position but this time with 173 million followers and advert potential of $975,000 per post – (doing the game of numbers in the pitch and on IG).
The table was turned around in 2020 when Dwayne Johnson ‘therock’ topped the list with 187.3 million Instagram followers at an ad potential of $1,015,000 per post. Ronaldo had more followers about 224,800,000 but the ad potential was $889,000 per post and that saw him yet at the third position.
Over the period of just one year the estimated cost for an Instagram post by Ronaldo, who made headlines in June when he removed two bottles of Coca-Cola at a press conference before Portugal’s Euro 2020 opener against Hungary, has increased by 54%.
Mike Bandar the Co-founder of Hopper HQ insinuates that Instagram is the largest social community with less negative impact from covid-19, he said “As Covid-19 continues to impact all our lives, it appears that Instagram is one of the few places not negatively impacted by the pandemic, and with people using the app more than ever before, some could say it was inevitable earnings would peak this year,”
“It was great to see Cristiano Ronaldo take the number one spot this year after steadily ranking within the top five throughout the list’s history.
“With the Euros this year and a few controversial marketing move over the last couple of weeks, the football royalty’s presence has skyrocketed.”
